Accessibility statement

The BT Openzone web site has been designed to make it as widely accessible as possible so that everyone, regardless of ability, can use our site. This page gives information on features included within the site.

Problems?

If you have any access problems with any part of this site, please contact us and we will do our best to help.

Standards compliance

The Majority of pages are AA compliant - the exception is the hotspot locator and the ordering process - this is currently beyond our control but we are working to improve the accessibility in these areas too.

All pages validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict.

All pages use structured semantic markup.

Design

We have used a common accessible design throughout this web site rather than providing text only pages for disabled users.

Links and navigation

Many links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target (such as the headline of an article).

Wherever possible, links are written to make sense when read out of context. Many browsers (such as JAWS, Home Page Reader, Lynx, and Opera) can extract the list of links on a page and allow you to browse the list separately from the page.

Link text is never duplicated: two links with the same link text always point to the same web address.

There are no 'javascript' pseudo-links. All links can be followed in any browser, even if scripting is turned off.

Frames

We have not used frames throughout this site.

Graphics, Pictures and Images

Where we have used graphics, pictures and images, we have included text descriptions ('Alt-Tags'), to comply with internationally recognised Web accessibility guidelines All graphical navigation buttons are similarly 'Alt-tagged'. Where graphical images are just for decoration they have NULL alt text (alt="").

Language

We have followed 'use-of-English' guidelines, including those set out by Mencap and the Plain English Campaign, so that you find this web site easy to read and understand.

Leaving the BT Openzone site

Many links take you to other parts of BT.com or other web sites outside BT which may not be as accessible.

Visual design and viewing options

All pages on this site use cascading style sheets for visual layout. Although we have used a large clear font throughout this web site, we have given you the option of changing the font size and colour contrast via your Internet Browser. For example, you can change the text size in Internet Explorer by going to 'View > 'Text Size' - other browsers contain similar features.
